Victoria makes visible the often invisible parts of cancer treatment, the sickness, the fatigue, the tears … The prefab is a perfect starting point for most projects, and the controller and input tracking is amazing. The Waiting Room VR is a complement to a film of the same title, which launched on the Guardian as part of their documentaries section. This experience is counter balanced by two CGI sequences which travel inside my body. The lynchpin of this VR piece is a nine-minute, 360-degree single take sequence that reconstructs Victoria’s final session of radiotherapy. Moving beyond sentimentality and survivor/victim binaries, The Waiting Room puts under the microscope what lies within or beyond our control when our bodies fail us.

It comprises of a 30-minute smartphone short, commissioned by The Guardian and broadcast on The Guardian website in 2019 , and a Virtual Reality project, which was funded by the EPSRC and premiered at The 76th Venice International Film Festival in 2019.
