The Gettysburg Peach Orchard Before the Civil War, Gettysburg was best known for orchards of delicious fruit, but one Gettysburg peach orchard became a hot spot during the battle in 1863. I was aware of the “famous” peach orchard where many men died on the field at Gettysburg, and was aware of a few other references to battlefield orchards, but was surprised at the abundance of information I uncovered on the eleven day trip.
The orchard was owned by Joseph Sherfy, whose house and barn still stand a short distance north on Emmitsburg Road. Peach Orchard Tour the Gettysburg battlefield > North • Central • South • E.
