The Waimakariri District Council is concerned about having to bill its ratepayers for a huge hike in regional authority rates. The Mackenzie District Plan assists the Council in carrying out its functions under the Resource Management Act 1991 so that it may achieve the purpose of the Act which is to "promote the sustainable management of natural and physical resources." There will also be practical actions the community, industry, and other organisations can make to reflect the intent of the recommendations. The submission period is now closed. Every 10 years, Council has to review our District Plan for the Waimakariri – this doesn’t mean starting a new District Plan from scratch – but it provides an opportunity to reconsider the current District Plan and update this in line with any regulations and the Resource Management Act (RMA) 1991. Our Proposed District Plan was notified on 23 September 2019, with the submission period open until 22 November 2019.
